The problem is that when I try to pull down the menu bars, at the top of the screen, I get an error message which says that 'Chessmaster 7000.exe has experienced a problem and will shut down'. Then the Microsoft dialog box appears and suggests that I send the error report. After I either send or don't send the report, Chessmaster shuts down. Also, I noticed that when I try to save a game, there are some crypic characters after the name of the folder I'm trying to save the file in. This doesn't seem to be right. Is Chessmaster 7000 compatable with an XP operating system? I have all the latest drivers installed. I noticed on both of the disks that Windows XP/Me/98/95 are the compatable operating systems. However, when I select the 'About Chessmaster 7000' from the pulldown menu, only Windows 95/98 appears. I have installed Chessmaster 7000 on a Windows 98SE operating system and it seems to work fine. Has anyone else experienced problems installing Chessmaster 7000 on an XP Home Edition operating system? I installed the patch for Chessmaster 7000, and the problems are still there. Thank you for your help. RickH wrote: I am trying to install Chessmaster 7000 on a Dell computer with an XP operating system. Thank you for your help. Rick Hovish Chessmaster 7000 is not compatible with XP, and this is the main problem that XP users will find when running any version of CM that is earlier than CM9000. If you are running XP, you need to get CM9000 or the newer CM 10th Edition. If CM7000 is indeed incompatible with Windows XP (Home) and Rick's disks indicate otherwise in their labelling, should this not be considered to be another manifestation of software developer irresponsibility regarding their claims. This situation may or may not rise to the level of a truth in advertising case, nevertheless, it should be considered to give a black eye to CM's software developers. This thing has been going on for a long long time. Is it not fair that forums like this one pay more attention to such issues as opposed to being mesmerized by the latest, greatest and.buggiest technical advances in the field? Respectfully Major Cat. 2 Online multiplayer services have been discontinued. Issues fixed [ ] Piece overlap [ ] In some systems, pieces may not be drawn correctly in True3D mode. A temporary fix exists for Windows Vista: • Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager menu, and press ESC to return to Chessmaster. Alternatives: • Use a non-True3D setting (these boards aren't scaled, and will look small on high-resolution monitors). • Use a 'flat' piece when using True3D. Mentor opening book [ ] You may get an error message 'A fatal error occurred when loading the Mentor Opening Book. The application will shut down.' As found in Windows 7, this may happen when running an account other than the one in which the program was installed. So the administrator account may not show this error when running the program, but when running from a different account such as a limited user account, the error may show since a copy of the Chessmaster 9000 folder is not created in that users profile when running (only the administrator account has a copy).
